by SAVOX
The Company
Founded in 1982, SAVOX is a leading technology provider, designer and manufacturer of hands free communications solutions for demanding use. Its headsets work well with helmets and facemasks, especially in hazardous environments.
SAVOX products have a wide range of applications, including air-sea helicopter rescue, airport fire fighting, special forces, military and traffic police, frontier and coast guard teams, and as equipment for snowmobiles and motorcycles.
Based near Helsinki, Finland, SAVOX enjoys the close aura and support of Nokia, which it supplies for professional markets in Europe and beyond.
The Contact Point
In March 2003 SAVOX was looking for a special GPS antenna and sourced Sarantel as a potential supplier and partner via a Finnish GPS company.
The Relationship
Sarantel was first contacted by SAVOX about antennas for its Tetra-radio frequency product called Track-Mate. Tetra-radio networks are being adopted as a standard communications system for police forces and the military around the world.
These networks cannot function accurately from radio masts alone, so SAVOX needed to incorporate a top quality GPS antenna that could work in the most demanding conditions, delivering wide beamwidth and excellent reception.
Their Choice
Sarantel's GeoHelix antenna is a vital component in downloading the satellite positioning signal. It enables Track-Mate to calculate a very precise GPS position on a map. Track-Mate then sends the position data to command and control centres.
The excitement surrounding Track-Mate stems from its ability to help users track other team members with instant information to within 5 metres of their exact location. This pinpoint accuracy is a huge improvement on non-GPS tracking devices that are only accurate to within one kilometre.
The durability and precision of Sarantel's antennas complement SAVOX product qualities of toughness and reliability. The omni-directional antennas work well whether you are scrambling up a rock face, dangling from a helicopter, or upside down in a crashed vehicle.
Their Comment
Mikael Westerlund, SAVOX Director of Worldwide Sales, says:
"When combined with the Sarantel antenna, the SAVOX Track-Mate becomes a life-saver. It's a critical component and without Sarantel we could not have designed Track-Mate the way we have. With it you can get the exact location of a person or a team requiring urgent help.
"It will bring other benefits, too, notably economy in cost and staffing with much smaller search parties rather than blanket operations spread out over several kilometres.
"Sarantel has been very efficient in supplying us with materials, and has shown real enthusiasm for working together on a break-through device."
The Markets
Middle East, Asia, Europe.
