FS Oncore™ GPS Module
by Motorola
The Company
Motorola is a global leader in wireless, automotive and broadband communications.
The Product
In September 2003 Motorola launched its FS Oncore module, a breakthrough in Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Smaller than a dime or a penny piece, the FS Oncore adds accurate location sensing to virtually any portable electronics product.
Based around Motorola's Instant GPS Single-chip Solution, the FS Oncore Module is expected to lead a new generation of location and time-aware portable electronic products.
Their Choice
Motorola needed to source leading GPS antenna designers and manufacturers to supply one of the evaluation kit's most critical components. Sarantel's GeoHelix antenna was chosen because of its ability to receive satellite signals reliably in very difficult conditions.
The FS Oncore evaluation kit, which is aimed at cellular handset manufacturers, is designed and manufactured by Motorola's partner and value-added re-seller, Synergy Systems of San Diego, California, USA.
Their Comment
Dave Huntingford, Marketing Manager for Motorola GPS, says:
"We are very pleased to include the Sarantel antenna in our evaluation kit for the FS Oncore Module. The Sarantel ceramic GeoHelix GPS antenna offers a robust GPS reception in a range of difficult and hostile environments. It operates especially well when the device is in close proximity to the user's body."
